The Biofire Smart Gun uses the Guardian Biometric Engine to authenticate users through integrated biometric technology before enabling operation. The system provides fast, reliable, and secure authentication, while protecting the safety and privacy of the owner and additional users.
The Guardian Biometric Engine
The Guardian Biometric Engine powers the arming and disarming of the Smart Gun by sensing when it has been picked up or put down by a user, and verifying valid biometric data of an authorized user. The Guardian Biometric Engine includes:
- Presence sensors that actively detect when someone is gripping the Smart Gun
- Fingerprint identification and facial recognition systems that independently verify and authenticate an authorized user
- Electronic fire control system
The Smart Gun becomes armed only after the Guardian Biometric Engine is provided with biometrics of an authorized user.
Biometric Authentication Process
Presence sensors detect the Smart Gun being held and begin searching for authentication from both systems when someone picks up the Smart Gun. The Guardian Biometric Engine includes dual and redundant biometric authentication systems: fingerprint identification and facial recognition. Both systems run simultaneously; the first to recognize an enrolled user arms the Smart Gun. One method is sufficient.
This dual-system approach is designed to support faster and more reliable authentication.
The Smart Gun authenticates the user through whichever biometric is captured first, ensuring rapid access when the Smart Gun is needed most.
The Smart Gun remains armed once it successfully authenticates an authorized user, even if the finger moves away from the fingerprint sensor or the user's face is no longer in view of the camera, so long as the presence sensors detect that the Smart Gun is still being held. Maintaining contact with the fingerprint sensor or keeping the face positioned for the camera during use is not necessary.
Smart Gun Disarming
The Smart Gun continuously monitors for presence to ensure security. The presence sensors on the handle detect when the Smart Gun is being held. When a user is no longer gripping the Smart Gun and the sensors detect this loss of presence, the Smart Gun returns to an disarmed state.

Lighting Conditions
Both facial recognition and fingerprint identification perform even in the dark. The system functions reliably in a wide range of lighting environments, from bright daylight to pitch-black conditions, so that the Smart Gun is ready when needed.
Data Security and Privacy
The Smart Gun stores biometric data exclusively on the Smart Gun in fully encrypted form. Enrolled biometrics are secure, even from access by Biofire. Fingerprint and facial recognition data remain exclusively on the Smart Gun, providing privacy and security.

Access and Control
The Biofire Smart Gun cannot be remotely accessed or deactivated. The Smart Gun does not include wireless communication capabilities, ensuring isolation from external networks or over-the-air connections. The Smart Gun operates independently, with control remaining with the owner.
